HOW DO I SWAP DISCUSSION SECTIONS WITHOUT LOSING MY SPOT?
WHEN DO YOU CREATE A WAITLIST FOR A CLASS?
Generally speaking, when a class is popular enough to fill up early, the Undergraduate Team makes a waitlist.
Note: Waitlists will be cancelled at the end of the first week of classes.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN GET ON THE LIST?
Usually, there are 5-10 spaces on the waitlist. If the list is full, you will not be able to add yourself to it. Keep trying!
IF I AM FIRST ON THE LIST, I AM FIRST IN THE CLASS, RIGHT?
Most of the time, if you were first on the list you will be the first to be offered a space when it comes open. However, professors can allow whomever they want into their classes whenever they want.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO ENROLL IF I AM GIVEN PERMISSION TO ENROLL?
If you are offered a space in the class you are waiting for, you will be given only 48 hours to enroll. If you do not enroll, your permission will expire, and it will be offered to the next people on the list. If your permission does expire, you will be placed at the bottom of the list and a permission will not be offered again until everyone else has gotten a place. We are not trying to be mean. We want to be fair.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I GET INTO THE CLASS?
Keep an eye out for those permission emails!
HOW WILL I KNOW IF A CLASS HAS A WAITLIST?
If a class has filled and has a waitlist attached, you will see the yellow triangle. If a class fills up faster than expected and there is no waitlist, let us know! You could be the first on the list!
WHEN SHOULD I GIVE UP HOPE OF GETTING INTO A CLASS?
We often offer people places in classes late into the enrollment period, in summers this can be as late as early September; in the fall, as late as early January! Your classmates move their schedules around until the last minute (just like you).
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY FINANCIAL AID IF I DROP CLASSES OR WITHDRAW FOR THE TERM?
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR INDEPENDENT STUDY?
Ideally, you would register for credit through your professor’s department, and the process for doing so varies by department. Usually, it involves contacting someone in the department’s office and completing a form. Start by asking your professor if they would help you get started. If your professor’s department doesn’t offer independent study credit, check in with your advisor.
