The Badger Reach program helps students identify and apply for ‘impactful’ internships in their city of interest in either Milwaukee, Chicago or the Twin Cities. Impactful internships are not just resume-builders (although they are that too), but ways for you to work in organizations addressing perennial challenges in your city involving Education/Social Welfare, Law/Social Justice, Civic Participation/Voting, and Environment/Urban Design.
Several $2000 scholarships (currently 2 awarded to declared Political Science students in each city) are available to support students who complete a half-time, 8-week internship, and participate in the spring 2018 campus preparatory workshop. Scholarship recipients will also be asked to submit a short final report of their internship activities and a public (digital) campus community presentation at summer’s end.
Non-scholarship students who seek help in identifying and applying for internships in their home city also are welcome to participate. Program benefits include internship leads and application assistance provided from campus and interaction with our UW alumni and our community partner organizations in each city.
Applications are due by 5 pm on January 30. Students will be selected based on academic merit and organizational/work activities, and stated goals for the summer internship program.
Any questions can be addressed to Joel Clark, Career and Internship Instructor for the Social Sciences, at jclark24@wisc.edu.
