About the Panelists

Anne Eakin Moss is Assistant Professor in Russian literature and cinema for the Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures at the University of Chicago. She focuses on the classic Russian novel through the modern period, with particular interests in Russian realism, Modernist prose, revolutionary culture, and socialist realism.

William Nickell is Associate Professor of Russian Literature at the University of Chicago and has been teaching a course focused on Russian media and censorship for many years, which he recently had to rename Media and Power in the Age of Putin and Trump. He will be giving us a closer look at what Russians are seeing on state run media.

Anton Shirikov is a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Politics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is working on media politics, misinformation, and perceptions of media in autocracies, and his other work explores contemporary political institutions and authoritarian legacies in the post-communist space. Before his time at UW-Madison, Anton was a journalist and editor, covering business and politics in Russia. He obtained his master’s degree from the European University at St. Petersburg.
