Student Opportunities
Be a Peer Mentor
Every year, the Department puts together a team of undergraduate students who are available to discuss all things relating to the Poli Sci experience. Application periods are typically held in the Spring.
Work with the City
UW's UniverCity Alliance program gives students the opportunity to work with municipal governments to improve communities all over Wisconsin. UCA's partnership with the city of Madison gives students a great opportunity to get involved!
Host a Podcast
1050 Bascom is the official podcast of the Department of Political Science. Each episode, the hosts and their guests dig deep into the political and human implications of what is happening around the world.
Study in DC
The Wisconsin in Washington program offers students the opportunities to live and study in DC for a semester or over the summer, and potentially intern in the federal government.
Join a Student Organization
Student orgs are a great way to get involved, build community, and make a big campus feel small! Organizations specifically for Poli Sci students include the Political Science Student Association, Pi Sigma Alpha, and the Alexander Hamilton Society.
Work with Alumni
The Department of Political Science offers an Alumni Mentor Matching Program every academic year. Selected students will be paired with an alumni mentor whose career experiences align with the student's professional interests.
Why should I major in Political Science?
It’s a valid question. See the video below to hear from Professors Jon Pevehouse and Kathy Cramer at the 2024 Spring Graduation Ceremony on the value of a Political Science degree.
