Educated at Harvard (AB, MA, Ph.D.) where he was also on the faculty, Professor Croan taught at UW-Madison from 1967 to 1999. Specializing in comparative politics, his publications and teaching have focused on the domestic politics and foreign policies of Soviet and post-Soviet Russia, East Central Europe, and Western Europe (especially Germany). With an abiding interest in the interrelationship of ideas, institutions and processes, he continues to lecture on his research in the United States and abroad.
