ABOUT PARLINE

Parliaments on the Web The PARLINE database (a derivative of Parliaments on-Line) has been developed by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and is regularly updated on the basis of official information provided by national Parliaments.

Whenever other sources of information are used, as is the case with preliminary results of parliamentary elections in some countries before comprehensive official results are made public, these alternative sources are indicated accordingly.
! The following countries will not appear in the PARLINE search result because Parliaments there have been dissolved or suspended for an indefinite period: Fiji (House of Representatives and Senate), Mauritania (elections to the upper chamber have not yet taken place following the 2005 coup d'état), Myanmar. For some of them, you can however access the latest available information about the corresponding Parliament by clicking on the country name.
For all countries where a national legislature exists, the database provides:

BulletGeneral information on each of the Parliament's chambers
BulletDescription of the electoral system
BulletResults of the most recent elections
BulletArchive of past elections resultsNew!
BulletInformation on the presidency of each Chamber
BulletInformation on the mandate and status of members of Parliament.

Please note, however, that for some countries, information relating to the last of these modules (Parliamentary Mandate) is either unavailable or is under preparation. It will be added to the database at a later stage.

In view of the significant differences often existing in the electoral rules, structure and functioning of upper and lower chambers even in the same Parliament, all information in the database has been compiled by chamber.

Geographical regionsIn the PARLINE database, countries have been grouped geographically for purposes of comparison. This grouping is based on a number of internationally accepted standards.
