Hugely
forceful but never actually used, this piece from the campaign of Democrat Lyndon
Johnson in 1964 against Republican Barry Goldwater was held in reserve, and
thus has to be content with an honorable mention. The Johnson campaign covered
every base in this aggressive, well-funded, and diabolically inspired campaign,
including social insurance, poverty, civil rights, and of course (in the “Daisy
Girl”) foreign affairs.
